WASHINGTON/BRUSSELS - U.S. State Department condemned on Saturday bomb attacks against two synagogues in Istanbul and said that it was ready to extend every support to Turkish government to capture assailants of those attacks.
A statement of U.S. State Department said that the United States harshly condemned those horrifying terrorist attacks against two synagogues in Istanbul.
The statement noted that U.S. State Secretary Colin Powell spoke to Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul by phone and expressed deep sorrow and condolences over the people who died in the attacks.
The United States was beside its close ally Turkey in the global fight against terrorism and was ready to extend every support to Turkish government to punish those who were responsible for the attacks, said the statement.
Meanwhile, German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer spoke to Gul by phone and offered condolences.
Fischer made a statement on behalf of German government and said that Germany especially condemned those attacks against the Jews.
In the meantime, NATO Secretary General George Robertson condemned terrorist and barbaric attacks in Istanbul.
