Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) officials described the European Commission's latest progress report on Türkiye as objective, saying it contained no unexpected findings. Diplomats characterized the state of EU-Türkiye relations as stable and on course.
Officials noted that earlier Commission reports had contained more troubling language, and expressed relief that such wording was absent from this edition.
Still, the MFA registered some dissatisfaction. Diplomats took issue with what they saw as a narrow reading of the Treaty of Lausanne, as well as passages linking the Foundation Law to minority education rights.
Officials also objected to the report's references to honor killings in Türkiye's southeastern provinces, pointing out that civil society groups had worked extensively on the issue and that the government had amended relevant legislation.
