ISTANBUL - Ercan Kartal, one of leading names of the illegal Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C), was sentenced to life imprisonment on charges of attempting to destroy the constitutional order in Turkey.
Istanbul High Criminal Court no: 14 disclosed its verdict about Kartal and Fadime Bastug on Wednesday.
During the hearing, the court delegation decided to sentence Kartal who was also accused of assassinating businessman Ozdemir Sabanci and his colleagues in 1996, and ordering assassination of former President Kenan Evren, to life imprisonment.
Meanwhile, the other suspect Bastug was sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison for being a members of an illegal organization.
