ATHENS - The Greek parliament approved a bill on construction of a mosque in Athens on Tuesday.
Greek Minister of National Education & Religions Marietta Yiannakou who prepared and presented the bill to the parliament said that the mosque would be under supervision of the Greek state, and Muslims could worship according to their religious sects.
The law rules that the mosque will be built in Votanikos district in downtown Athens; the expenses will be paid by the Greek state; an executive board (comprising representatives from economy and education ministries and Athens Municipality, one academician and two representatives from Muslim society) will be created; and clerical officials will be appointed by the state upon proposal of the executive board.
