ANKARA - "Late former prime minister Bulent Ecevit marked lasting traces in Turkish democracy, and took his place in history of politics as a distinguished person with his knowledge and courtesy," said Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a group meeting of Justice & Development Party (AKP) in the Turkish parliament on Tuesday.
Erdogan offered his condolences to Ecevit's family and members of the Democratic Left Party (DSP).
Erdogan said, "the current laws do not include any article on state ceremony and cemetery for prime ministers. Thus, we have sent a draft law to the parliament to make amendment to those laws. We will urgently work on the draft law together with the opposition parties as well as other political parties."
Erdogan recalled that the funeral of Ecevit will be held on November 11th.
