ANKARA - "Four ministers will visit the disaster zone (in Southeastern Anatolia Region hit by the floods and torrential rains) today. Also, PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan will go to the region on November 17th", said Justice Minister and government spokesman Cemil Cicek.
After yesterday's cabinet meeting, Cicek told reporters that the government will extend every kind of support to the citizens who are affected by last week's flood disaster.
"2.9 million new Turkish liras (YTL) of aid has been sent to the region as a first step. On the other hand, Turkish Red Crescent has dispatched 31,000 blankets, 10 mobile kitchens, food for 8,000 people, and 750 stoves. 80 more trucks will leave for the region on Wednesday morning and they will be loaded with 2,000 tents, 1,500 stoves, 2,500 kitchen sets, 6,000 blankets, 4,000 tins of food and many other emergency needs," he stated.
-ECEVIT'S FUNERAL-
On the funeral for former prime minister Bulent Ecevit, Cicek said, "we think that a ceremony will be held at his party (Democratic Left Party) HQs, and at the parliament. Then the funerals will probably be held at the Kocatepe Mosque. This is what we have heard so far. We will do what is necessary to fulfil our last duties (to him)."
