Parliament Adopts Law Envisaging Approval Of Hague Convention On Protection Of Children And Cooperation In Respect Of Intercountry Adoption

ANKARA - Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Commission has adopted a law envisaging approval of Hague Convention of May 29, 1993 on Protection of Children and Co-operation in respect of Intercountry Adoption.
Sources told the A.A correspondent on Thursday that the convention aimed at facilitating intercountry adoption and preventing the abduction, the sale of, or traffic in children.
Under the convention, intercountry adoptions are made in the best interests of the child and with respect for his or her fundamental rights as recognized in international law.
The convention envisages to establish a system of co-operation amongst contracting states to prevent the abduction, the sale of, or traffic in children.
The convention covers only adoptions which create a permanent parent-child relationship.
