IZMIR - "We will promote Izmir to foreigners with 'Izmir' newspaper which was prepared by Turkish Daily News in English," Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Aziz Kocaoglu told reporters on Monday.
Kocaoglu said, "tourism infrastructure of the city was strengthened, Adnan Menderes Airport was renovated and also cruise tourism developed in Izmir. Thus, tourism in the city gained momentum seriously. Nearly 170,000 tourists arrived in Izmir in 2006 on board cruisers, and this figure will reach at least 200,000 in 2007."
"Also Izmir will increase its international popularity with its candidacy to EXPO fair," he added.
"Turkish Daily News newspaper will promote history, beauty and current events of Izmir to tourists with Izmir paper," he noted.
The monthly "Izmir" newspaper was initially printed 10,000 copies, and it will be distributed to tourists and foreign businessmen.
