The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) will hold its first-ever ministerial-level gathering dedicated to women's contributions to member-state development, scheduled for 21-22 November in Istanbul.
State Minister Nimet Cubukcu noted that the meeting follows a recommendation adopted the previous year at the OIC Foreign Ministers' Conference in Sana, Yemen, calling attention to Muslim women's role in Islamic societies.
Ministers responsible for women's affairs from all 57 OIC member states are expected to attend. The gathering will be organized around four sessions covering poverty reduction, strategies to expand women's employment, women's participation in decision-making, education access, and eliminating violence against women.
Cubukcu stressed the significance of holding the inaugural event in Türkiye, highlighting that it marks the first formal OIC discussion of women's roles in democratization and development across member countries.
A concluding report summarizing the ministers' deliberations will be submitted for approval at the close of the two-day meeting.
