ANKARA - Turkey has welcomed North Korea`s decision to return to the table for six-nation negotiations on its nuclear weapon program.
Releasing a written statement, Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday, "we welcomed North Korea`s decision to return to the table for negotiations after talks in Beijing on October 31st with envoys of the United States and the People`s Republic of China."
"Turkey attaches great importance to nuclear disarmament. We wish that six-party negotiations will resume soon and will yield positive results," the Ministry added.
Negotiations including the United States, the People`s Republic of China, Russia, Japan, South Korea and North Korea interrupted in November 2005.
Six-party negotiations are expected to resume before the end of the year.
The focus of the revived talks will be on implementing a September 19th, 2005 agreement where North Korea pledged to abandon its nuclear program for a range of rewards including aid, security guarantees and normalized relations with the United States.
