IZMIR - The Dokuz Eylul University (DEU) Research Hospital in the western Turkish city of Izmir has started a project for laser-guided lung cancer treatment.
Dr. Ahmet Onen from the DEU Thoracic Surgery Department told the A.A on Friday that they had begun using the laser-guided treatment method at the hospital and got positive results.
"Laser-guided treatment is a highly advantageous and safe method. The risk of embolus creates the most serious problem in lung surgeries. Laser-guided treatment decreases the risk to the minimum level," he said.
"Also, we have begun using the laser bronchoscopy to diagnose trachea defects. For the first time in the world, we treated a patient by placing a stent in his trachea by developing our own method," Dr. Onen added.
