Teams Fail To Stop Pollution Caused By Georgian-flagged Cargo Ship

ANKARA - Teams failed on Tuesday to exert efforts to stop pollution caused by Georgian-flagged cargo ship which ran aground off Anadolufeneri on Monday due to storm in Istanbul.
A statement of Environment and Forestry Ministry said that the cargo ship named ''Svatoy Panteleymon'' was divided into two after it had run aground and fuel oil, diesel oil and oil started to leak from the ship.
The statement noted that fuel oil, diesel oil and oil leaking out of the ship polluted the sea.
Teams could not stop the pollution due to heavy storm, the statement added.
The Georgian-flagged ship went adrift on Monday due to severe weather conditions when it was to set sail to the Black Sea and ran aground between Anadolufeneri and Yon Cape on the Istanbul Strait.
Twenty-five crew members were reported to be on the ship en route from Tunisia to Ukraine.
The Georgian-flagged ship was 16 thousand 216 gross tons in weight and 171 meters in length.
