ISTANBUL - A person was detained after opening fire into the air outside the Italian Consulate General in Istanbul on Thursday to protest the scheduled visit of Pope Benedict XVI.
Sources told the A.A that that the person who identified himself as Ibrahim Ak fired shots into the air for two times outside the Italian Consulate General in Istanbul and shouted, "I do not want him to come to Turkey."
Security forces quickly rendered him ineffective.
He was taken to the provincial police department for questioning.
A full investigation into the event is under way.
Pope Benedict XVI is scheduled to visit Turkey between November 28th and December 1st.
