ANKARA - A Turk fighting with the Iraqi insurgency was involved in a suicide attack last week that killed five US soldiers in western Iraq, a Turkish newspaper reported Thursday.
The popular daily Sabah said the news emerged when a Turkish-speaking man called the family of Ebubekir Yigit on Tuesday and said their son died in a suicide mission against US forces on October 26 in Al-Anbar province.
The family received a farewell letter from Yigit the next day, Sabah reported.
The US military had announced that four US marines and one sailor died "from injuries sustained due to enemy action" in Al-Anbar.
The man who telephoned Yigit's family said the suicide bombing claimed the lives of seven soldiers and injured 10 others, Sabah said.
The newspaper said Yigit, 25, had gone to Iraq in August last year to join the resistance, which includes fighters from several Muslim countries, including Turkey.
