ISTANBUL - In the joint operation of Turkish and German police, 24 kg of heroin was seized in Istanbul and Frankfurt. Totally 16 persons including three women were detained in connection with the incident.
Istanbul Narcotics department said on Tuesday that the Turkish and German police determined a drug smuggler group and the group started to be monitored in September both in Germany and Turkey.
German police detained three persons and seized 8 kg of heroin in their suitcases in Frankfurt Airport on Sept. 30. Turkish police launched operations in Zeytinburnu, Gungorun, Bahcelievler and Pendik districts of Istanbul on Nov. 7, detained 13 persons who belonged to the same group and seized 16 kg of heroin hidden in two suitcases and 10,000 U.S. dollars, 5,000 Euros and 18 billion Turkish liras in their houses.
