OZKOK'S STATEMENTS ON NOV. 10
Chief of General Staff Gen. Hilmi Ozkok said that Turkey was very sorry due to the incident in Suleymaniyah when Turkish soldiers were taken into custody by U.S. soldiers. ''Such an incident should not be repeated. If it is repeated, things can be different this time. We acted in a very good way and we didn't cause any clash. If this was not the case, they could have put the whole blame on us. Our U.S. counterparts later expressed their deep sorrow over the incident. Our military existence in north of Iraq is around 1500 including weapons. We don't have an eye on anybody's territory. We want to see Iraq's natural resources to belong to all Iraqi people.'' Referring to Cyprus issue, Gen. Ozkok said that ''Greek Cypriots should not count on Europeans. No European can come to Cyprus to tell us to withdraw from Cyprus saying it is European territory and fight for Greek Cypriots. If they put economic embargo, we will resist that, too.''

ONE TURKISH BUSINESSMAN KILLED IN BAGHDAD
Osman Peltek, a Turkish businessman was killed in Baghdad, Iraq. Peltek left his house to go to an internet cafe on Nov. 4. After four hours, the dead body of Peltek was found in the morgue of a police station. Peltek was suffocated and there was no injury in his body. Peltek was involved in business of building road signs in Iraq, and no political reason has been found behind his killing.

''YOU WOULD DIE''
Iraqi Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) leader Jalal Talabani became the chairman of Iraqi Interim Governing Council at the beginning of November. Talabani is expected to pay his first foreign visit to Turkey as the chairman of the Council next week. Talabani who replied to questions of Milliyet on Saturday made important explanations regarding Turkey. Talabani said that new Iraq was a friend of Turkey and it would be. Stating that opposing presence of Turkish soldiers in Iraq did not mean an attitude against Turkey, Talabani said that because Iraqi people had the responsibility for settlement of security in Iraq. Talabani said that Turkey's giving up dispatch of soldiers to Iraq was a positive step and stated that if Turkish soldiers had come to Iraq, they would have died instead of American soldiers.

VORKINK SAYS THEY WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT TURKEY
World Bank Country Director for Turkey Andrew Vorkink said that they aimed to support Turkey's EU membership with Country Assistance Strategy (CAS) which would provide 4.5 billion U.S. dollars to Turkey for the next three years. Vorkink said that the government put into practice a successful program and stated that growth would continue and inflation and interest rates would decrease. Vorkink added that Turkey had potential for integration into EU.

The principles and targets of Ataturk continue to guide Turkey. Turkey came closer to the target of reaching modern civilization level by its EU membership project.

GUL: HONEST ELECTIONS SHOULD BE HELD IN CYPRUS
Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said he was sure that no shadow would be cast over the elections in TRNC. ''There is a democratic structure in TRNC. Before everything, we want the elections to be honest. Foreigners were also invited to the elections. Whoever is elected, he will see the critical process ahead,'' Gul said.

WE WILL NOT FORGET ATATURK
Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of Turkish Republic, will be commemorated with several activities and ceremonies in Turkey on November 10. A ceremony took place in Anitkabir, the Mausoleum of Ataturk. State officials chaired by President Ahmet Necdet Sezer will lay a wreath at the Mausoleum and Turkish people will also visit the Anitkabir. Sezer issued a message upon the 65th death anniversary of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and said that Ataturk was the symbol of national unity, independence, modernization and enlightenment. Sezer said that Turkish nation was determined to protect modern, democratic and secular Republic till the very end.

FOREIGN MINISTER GUL TO GO TO ROME FOR TURKEY-EU TROIKA MEETING
Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul will go to Italian capital Rome on Monday to attend Turkey-European Union (EU) Troika meeting. Turkey's EU process and Cyprus issue will be discussed in the meeting. Gul is expected to demand EU to have more effect on Greek Cypriot administration for solution in Cyprus.

ERDOGAN'S TERRORISM WARNING
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that poverty, terrorism and migration triggered each other and caused bigger problems, noting that the poorest 36 provinces where national income was below 1,500 U.S. dollars were in a difficult situation. Calling businessmen to invest in those provinces, Erdogan said that migration should be prevented.

BLACK MONEY TO BE MONITORED
According to the draft which was recently prepared, people will be obliged to declare to customs the money and securities which are more than 25 billion liras when they are entering and leaving the country. The draft also redefines 'black money.'

WE COMMEMORATE ATATURK WITH 65 YEAR LONGING
Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of Turkish Republic, will be commemorated across the country with ceremonies today. Issuing a message upon the 65th death anniversary of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, President Ahmet Necdet Sezer said that great leader Ataturk, the founder of secular and modern Turkey, was the symbol of national unity, independence, modernization and enlightenment. Sezer said that Ataturk was always in the hearts of people and his principles and revolutions would continue to guide the future of the country and added that they would protect values of Republic in every condition.

OZKOK: ''WE DO NOT HAVE A SAY IN IRAQ''
Chief of General Staff General Hilmi Ozkok said that the situation in Iraq was disorganized and stated that they did not know what would happen there. He added that Turkey did not have a say in Iraq as it was not there. Drawing attention to strategic importance of Cyprus, Ozkok said that they had some problems in west and stated that if they also had problems in south, Turkey would be in a cage.

WE SEND HUMANITARIAN AID TO IRAQ RATHER THAN SOLDIERS
Turkish Red Crescent is praised by Iraqi people due to the humanitarian aid it sends to Iraq. Turkish Red Crescent is the only national institution that distributes aid to people in Iraq where chaos escalates every day and where there are no sufficient international aid institutions. Red Crescent brought five convoys of aid to Iraq to date without making discrimination among Arabs, Turkmens and Kurds.

17 PERSONS DIE IN TRAFFIC ACCIDENT
Totally 17 persons died and two others were injured in the traffic accident that took place on Kırıkkale-Samsun highway. The accident took place when a minibus hit a TIR coming from the other direction in rainy weather.
