ANKARA - Greenpeace activists held a demonstration to protest nuclear energy near the Turkish parliament in Ankara on Thursday.
Mevlut Yaman, a Greenpeace activist, made a speech on behalf of the group in the garden outside the parliament. Yaman claimed that if the bill on building a nuclear power plant is enacted, then Turkey may pay a price like the Chernobyl accident.
Police did not allow the activists wearing "No to nuclear power plant" t-shirts to march around the parliament. Upon police orders, activists changed their t-shirts and continued their protest.
Last April the Turkish government has chosen the city of Sinop on the Black Sea coast to host the country's first nuclear power plant.
