ISTANBUL - Security forces have impounded 580 kg of heroin, and an reasonable amount of morphine, opium and acid anhydride in operations in Istanbul and northern province of Rize.
Acting on a tip-off, security forces launched synchronic operations in Kucukcekmece and Silivri districts of Istanbul and in Rize.
During the operations, 580 kg of heroin, more than 150 kg of morphine, nearly 100 kg of opium and acid anhydride were confiscated.
Fifteen people including Urfi Cetinkaya who was sentenced to life imprisonment on charges of trafficking heroin, and later released from prison on June 25, 2003, were detained in the operation.
A full investigation into illicit drug trafficking is under way.
