VAN - Project "Silent Scream of Women" which aims to provide employment to women in eastern city of Van and revitalize Van kilims (rugs) will be funded by European Union.
The project, prepared by Lake Van Folklore, Tourism and Sports Association, will prevent different types of kilim motifs from disappearing and provide jobs for 240 women in the city.
Project coordinator Sengul Dagtekin said on Tuesday that they are very pleased that EU approved the project "Silent Scream of Women" that was prepared within the context of Eastern Anatolia Development Program.
Dagtekin said that at the end of the project they aim to produce 350 kilims. The kilims will be made in 4 different sizes so that they can be used in various spaces. In the framework of the project 50 motifs that are peculiar to Van and its surroundings will be determined on basis of information to be received from kilim producers and old people.
