ANKARA - Total foreign exchange deposit accounts at banks increased 1 billion 144 million U.S. dollars to 68 billion 151 million U.S. dollars between October 17-24, 2003.
According to Central Bank`s provisional statistics, total foreign exchange deposit accounts at banks was 67 billion 7 million U.S. dollars on October 17.
Foreign exchange deposits increased 898 million U.S. dollars to 51 billion 780 million U.S. dollars in the same period.
Total internal foreign exchange deposits increased 888 million U.S. dollars to 49 billion 404 million U.S. dollars while external foreign exchange deposits increased 10 million U.S. dollars to 2 billion 376 million U.S. dollars in the same period.
Meanwhile, total foreign exchange deposits at the interbank market increased 69 million U.S. dollars to 726 million U.S. dollars.
Foreign exchange deposits with letter of credit and super foreign exchange accounts decreased 127 million U.S. dollar to 16 billion 244 million U.S. dollars between October 24-31, 2003.
FOREIGN EXCHANGE RESERVES DECREASE BY $181 MILLION
Foreign exchange reserves of the Central Bank decreased by 181 million U.S. dollars between October 24 and 31, 2003.
According to the Central Bank`s weekly bulletin, the Central Bank`s foreign exchange reserves which were 33 billion 109 million U.S. dollars on October 24, decreased to 32 billion 928 million U.S. dollars on October 31.
Total foreign exchange reserves of banks and private finance organizations decreased 327 million U.S. dollars from 11 billion 102 million U.S. dollars to 10 billion 775 million U.S. dollars between October 10 and 17.
The international reserves of Turkey comprising gold reserves and foreign exchange reserves of the Central Bank, commercial banks and private finance organizations decreased 576 million U.S. dollars from 47 billion 56 million U.S. dollars to 46 billion 480 million U.S. dollars between October 10 and 17.
TURKEY REPAYS USD 47 MILLION IN FOREIGN DEBT BETWEEN NOVEMBER 3-5
Turkey repaid a total of 47 million U.S. dollars in external debt between November 3 and 5, 2003.
The Central Bank data show that the Treasury repaid 36.10 million U.S. dollars; the Central Bank repaid 0.70 million U.S. dollars, and the administrations with general and consolidated budget paid the remaining 10.20 million U.S. dollars.
Turkey has repaid 12 billion 856.32 million U.S. dollars in external debt since the beginning of the year.
Turkey repaid 847.51 million U.S. dollars in external debt in January, 1 billion 948.87 million U.S. dollars in February, 1 billion 57.93 million U.S. dollars in March, 915.06 million U.S. dollars in April, 1 billion 133.96 million U.S. dollars in May, 1 billion 936.25 million U.S. dollars in June, 1 billion 851.89 million U.S. dollars in July and 907.35 million U.S. dollars in August, 712.08 million dollars in September and 1 billion 498.42 million U.S. dollars in October.
The total external debt repayments in 2002 had been 17 billion 365.18 million U.S. dollars.
SECURITIES ACCOUNT AT BANKS INCREASES BY 841.8 TRILLION TL
The securities account at banks increased 841.8 trillion Turkish Liras (TL) to 48 quadrillion 39.7 trillion TL on October 24, 2003.
The total securities account at banks was 47 quadrillion 197.9 trillion TL on October 17.
The Central Bank data show that there were a total of 47 quadrillion 314.3 trillion TL of securities including 27 quadrillion 898.2 trillion TL of securities and 19 quadrillion 416.1 trillion TL of securities over foreign currency in the deposit banks portfolio.
The securities over TL at deposit banks are composed of 3 quadrillion 676.3 trillion TL in treasury bonds, 23 quadrillion 745.2 trillion TL in state debenture bonds and 451.3 trillion TL in stocks.
A total of 931 trillion TL of foreign currency securities at these banks are abroad while there is a total of 18 quadrillion 371.3 trillion TL of state debenture bonds among the domestic securities.
The total securities account at the development and investment banks was 721.6 trillion TL.
TOTAL DEPOSITS AT BANKS INCREASE TO 145.9 QUADRILLION TL
Total deposits at banks increased 4 quadrillion 577.2 trillion Turkish liras (TL) to 145 quadrillion 941.4 trillion TL as of October 24, 2003.
The Central Bank data show that the total deposits were 141 quadrillion 364.2 trillion TL on October 17.
Excluding inter-bank deposits, the total deposits, which were 138 quadrillion 927.1 trillion TL on October 17, increased 4 quadrillion 199.1 trillion TL to 143 quadrillion 126.2 trillion TL on October 24.
The total foreign exchange deposits under total deposits at banks increased 4 quadrillion 100.2 trillion TL from 67 quadrillion 39 trillion TL on October 17 to 71 quadrillion 139.2 trillion TL on October 24.
The total TL deposits increased 98.9 trillion TL to 71 quadrillion 986.9 trillion TL on October 24. The total TL deposits were 71 quadrillion 888.1 trillion on October 17.
The total TL deposits were composed of 39 quadrillion 390.8 trillion TL deposits at public banks, 31 quadrillion 773.6 trillion TL of deposits at private deposit banks and 595.9 trillion TL of deposits at foreign banks.
REPO TRANSACTIONS BETWEEN BANKS AND THEIR CUSTOMERS DECREASE
Repo transactions between banks and their customers decreased by 316.9 trillion Turkish liras (TL) between October 24 and 31, 2003.
The Central Bank data show that the repo transactions, which were 3 quadrillion 203.1 trillion TL on October 24, decreased to 2 quadrillion 886.1 trillion TL on October 31.
Repo transactions among the financial organizations decreased 942.7 trillion TL to 6 quadrillion 952.5 trillion TL on October 31. The total repo transactions amount was 7 quadrillion 895.2 trillion TL on October 24.
The reverse repo transactions among the financial organizations, which were 7 quadrillion 861.7 trillion TL on October 24, decreased 915.3 trillion liras to 6 quadrillion 946.3 trillion TL on October 31.
BANKS` CREDIT VOLUME INCREASES BY 1 QUADRILLION 75.2 TRILLION TURKISH LIRAS
Banks` credit volume increased 1 quadrillion 75.2 trillion Turkish liras (TL) to 52 quadrillion 407.9 trillion TL between October 17-24, 2003.
The total credit volume at banks was 51 quadrillion 332.7 trillion TL on October 17.
The credits given to financial sector were composed of 875.8 trillion TL of loans given by deposit banks, and 1 quadrillion 795.4 trillion TL of loans given by development and investment banks.
The credits given to non-financial sector were composed of 174.9 trillion TL of loans given by Central Bank, 44 quadrillion 958.5 trillion TL of loans given by deposit banks, and 4 quadrillion 603.3 trillion TL of loans given by development and investment banks.
