ANKARA - State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullatif Sener said on Wednesday that European Union (EU) process was important for Turkey.
Sener delivered a speech in a symposium on ''role and importance of competition policy in EU membership process'' held on the sixth anniversary of the Competition Board.
Speaking in the symposium, Sener said that the government made necessary arrangements for EU membership.
Sener noted that world shrank with globalism and it was not possible to have an economy close to foreign countries.
In case a company was not strong against foreign competition, that company could not continue to operate, Sener said.
Sener stated that providing competition environment was very important.
Referring to privatization, Sener said that their government put forth a privatization schedule covering all institutions to be privatized for the first time.
Stating that however, intervention of public could be effective on economy, Sener pointed to importance of limiting interventions when necessary.
Sener said that there were legal arrangements that Turkey should do regarding state assistance, adding that drafts of those legal arrangements would be sent to parliament.
