ANKARA - Turkey has the best economic performance among three EU candidate countries in the region (among Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria).
According to New Europe Weekly Monitor published by UniCredito Italiano Group, Turkey will have a better economic performance than the estimations of the EU Commission as of the end of 2003. According to the report, Turkey will have a growth rate of approximately 5.8 percent rather than 5.1 percent, which was the estimated figure of the EU.
According to New Europe Weekly Monitor, the growth rate of Romania is expected to be 4.4, that of Bulgaria is expected to be 4.8 percent and that of Turkey is expected to be 5 percent in 2004.
The driving force of the economic growth in Turkey will be special consumption and investment expenses.
New Europe Weekly Monitor noted that if the positive trend continued, Turkey would reach the single digit annual inflation rate in the year 2005.
The report expects the current account defects to be 3.3 percent of the Gross Domestic Product and 2 percent of GDP in 2004.
