Turkey Ranked 49th Among 173 Countries In Use Of Technology And Information Technology

NEW YORK - Turkey was ranked the 49th among 173 countries in use of technology and information technology in a survey conducted by the U.N.
According to the ''World Public Sector Report'' in technology and information technology, Turkey is ranked the 49th among 173 countries in 2003 electronic government readiness index shortly ''E-government.''
In Turkey, there are 40.7 computers for every one thousand persons and only 72.8 of every thousand persons can access to internet. There are 281.2 telephones for every thousand persons and 347.5 of these persons have mobile phones. The number of television for one thousand persons is 449.
The World Public Sector Report 2003 ''E-government at the Crossroads'' provides an analysis of the status of e-government in the world today. It adopts the UN Millennium Declaration as its analytical framework and presents the U.N. Global E-government Survey 2003, with a global ranking of Member States as to their e-government readiness. The main message of the report is that development and the existence of e-government applications do not necessarily reflect the quality of life in a country. However, treating e-government as a tool that facilitates creation of public value (things that people want) by public administration can substantially add to this value and positively impact human development.
