MADRID - Foreign Economic Affairs Council (DEIK) gave information to Spanish business world which does not invest much in Turkey in a conference held in Madrid, Spain on Tuesday.
DEIK delegation which attended the conference on Turkey within the scope of the campaign started on EU enlargement by Madrid Industry and Trade Chamber (Camara Madrid), launched efforts to overcome the lack of information which was the most important factor that impeded Spanish businessmen to invest more in Turkey.
Spain's investments in Turkey has only been 153 million dollars between the years 1980-2002. Spain is ranked the 20th among countries investing in Turkey, but nearly 100 Spanish businessmen attended the meeting.
Trade and Economy Counselor Eduardo Euba of the Spanish Embassy in Ankara said that ''please come to Turkey to invest now. There is a good investment environment in Turkey, you can be late after Turkey joins the EU.''
Turkish Ambassador to Spain Volkan Vural, and DEIK delegation explained the Turkish economy, procedure of making investment in Turkey, reforms which were recently undertaken to Spanish businessmen, and telling them that ''there is economic and political stability in Turkey to make investment.''
DEIK delegation underlined the investment opportunities for Spanish businessmen in fields of infrastructure, environment, tourism, construction materials and equipment, automobile industry, agriculture and irrigation in Turkey.
