WASHINGTON - A strong earthquake of 6.3 magnitude jolted the island of Hawaii Sunday although officials said there was no tsunami was expected.
The US Geological Survey said the quake hit at 1707 GMT near the island of Hawaii and was followed by an aftershock of 5.8 magnitude.
"No tsunami is expected," said Stewart Koyangi at the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii. The agency said, however, that some areas had experienced strong shaking.
The epicenter was located some 153 miles (246 kilometers) from the capital of Honolulu.
