MORELIA-ISTANBUL - 30.10.2003 - State Minister Ali Babacan met on Thursday with U.S. Treasury Secretary John Snow and U.S. Federal Reserve Bank Chairman Alan Greenspan. U.S. side said it was ready to give the 8.5 billion U.S. dollars loan.
Recent developments in Turkish economy were conveyed to the U.S. side during the meeting.
Turkey's support expended to Afghanistan was also discussed, and 50 million U.S. dollars support, which Turkey plans to expend to Iraq, was reviewed at the meeting.
State Minister Ali Babacan separately met with International Monetary Fund (IMF) First Deputy Managing Director Anne Krueger and discussed 6th Review. Steps that would be taken for completion of 6th Review and legal arrangements were discussed.
It was reported that IMF was pleased over course of developments in Turkey, and it was noted that a betterment was recorded in Turkey more than expected.
Babacan also met with German Finance Minister Hans Eichel and took up developments in Turkish economy and adjustment to EU.
