KONYA - Nearly 18.5 percent of 546 parliamentarians at Turkish Parliament are at the age of 60 or over 60, and only 6.4 percent is under 40 (35 parliamentarians), stated official web-site of Turkish Parliament.
Most of the deputies are between 50-60 which is 46.3 percent (253 MPs). Also 28.7 percent (157 MPs) is between 40-50.
There are 9 MPS who are 70 or over. One of them is 82 years old.
Age of eligibility to become a MP is actually 30 in Turkey. However, Turkish Parliament's Constitution Commission adopted Friday an amendment to reduce the age of eligibility to be a deputy from 30 to 25. The Parliamentary General Assembly will debate the amendment soon.
Kastamonu deputy Sinan Ozkan (34), Samsun deputy Suat Kilic (34), Agri deputy Halil Ozyolcu (35) and Manisa deputy Suleyman Turgut (35) are the youngest ones at Turkish Parliament.
On the other hand, senior MPs at Parliament are Istanbul deputy Sukru Elekdag (82), Istanbul deputy Ali Topuz (74) and Hatay MP Inal Batu (72).
Meanwhile, Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal is at the age of 68, True Path Party (DYP) leader Mehmet Agar is 56, Justice & Development Party (AKP) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan is 52 and Motherland Party (ANAVATAN) leader Erkan Mumcu is 43 years old.
