ANKARA - "The antidote of current (accounts) deficit is exports," said Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen.
Speaking to A.A correspondent, Tuzmen indicated that what triggers the current deficit is the rise in imports.
Tuzmen noted that industrialists had to buy intermediary goods from abroad due to too valuable new Turkish lira (YTL). "They processed these goods, and exported them. On the other hand, imported consumption goods have become cheaper due to too valuable YTL. And, this has raised foreign trade deficit, and current (accounts) deficit," he commented.
According to Tuzmen, exports have to be boosted in order to prevent current deficit from posing a threat.
Tuzmen forecast that Turkey will have earned 83-84 billion USD from exports by the end of this year.
