WASHINGTON D.C. - U.S. congressmen Robert Wexler and Ed Whitfield sent a letter to U.S. President George Bush on Saturday in which they said that the U.S. administration should keep its promises about fight against terrorist organization PKK.
Wexler and Whitfield, who are the co-chairmen of the Caucus on U.S.-Turkish Relations at the U.S. Congress, welcomed the fruitful meeting held between President Bush and Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the White House last Monday (October 2nd).
In their letter, the two congressmen pointed out that countering against the terrorist organization PKK is for the best interests of the USA, and has a vital role in Turkish-U.S. relations.
Wexler and Whitfield also welcomed appointment of retired general Joseph Ralston as the U.S. special representative for countering terrorism.
"It is important for the U.S. administration and Ralston to fulfil the requirements of the promises (made to Turkey) to fight against the terrorist organization PKK," they noted.
In their letter, Wexler and Whitfield demanded that the U.S. administration should give a message to the Iraqi government and Iraqi Kurdish leaders that the branches of the terrorist organization PKK in Iraq should be closed.
Stating that steps to be taken against the terrorist organization will raise the support in Turkey to U.S. policies, the congressmen thanked President Bush for his determination to maintain his strong relations with Turkey in these critical days.
