ERDEMLI - Coins, amphoras and goddess figurine dating back to Byzantine era were unearthed in ancient city of Elause Sebaste in Erdemli town of southern city of Mersin, said Evgenia Eqnini Schneider, the head of the excavation team.
Professor Schneider of Roma La Spanze University told A.A correspondent that excavations were launched in this ancient city 12 years ago.
Schneider guessed that the historical building on the shore of the sea was used as a trade center, adding that the artifacts will be handed over to the executives of the Mersin Museum.
