ISTANBUL - "We will not create any difficulty for Turkey in its European Union process. Yet Turkey must fulfill its obligations under the Ankara Protocol," German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Friday.
Participating at the Turkish-German Economic Forum in Istanbul, Merkel stressed that Germany will try to resolve the matter of Ankara Protocol during its upcoming term as the EU rotating president.
"There are many things Turkey must do for EU membership. We believe Turkey is aware of its interests," noted Merkel.
According to Merkel, solutions to matters could be found by not discussing every detail in public.
Meanwhile, Merkel paid a visit to Fener Greek Patriarch Bartholomew after attending the Turkish-German Economic Forum.
