ANKARA - "We misinformed the Turkish public as we said two people hijacked a Turkish Airlines (THY) passenger jet last Wednesday because we received this intelligence from an Italian officer who was in Albania," said Ismail Caliskan, spokesman of the Security DG.
In his weekly press briefing, Caliskan indicated, "after the plane was hijacked, our authorities contacted Albanian authorities. And, the Albanian authorities talked about two hijackers. We misinformed the Turkish public due to this preliminary intelligence. Then, the Interpol asked to be informed about the other passengers, and we all saw that there was only one person aboard the plane who was wanted by the police."
Caliskan noted that the Civilian Aviation Safety Board will assess and discuss some measures to be taken by the THY.
