SAMSUN - An environmental disaster created by toxic waste barrels which have been kept in depots in northern cities of Samsun and Sinop for 18 years has finally been stopped. The poisonous barrels will be sent abroad for disposal as of tomorrow (Saturday), officials said.
Nongovernmental organizations and the people living in these cities are glad that the toxic waste barrels will be sent abroad.
The toxic waste barrels --that were claimed to be left by Italian companies in the Black Sea-- created an environmental disaster in the region that lasted for 18 years. There are 360 barrels in two depots in Sinop and Samsun.
