ANKARA - European Union (EU) Commissioner Olli Rehn has completed talks in Ankara and departed from the Esenboga Airport today.
In a press briefing at Esenboga, Rehn said that he is "neither pessimistic nor optimistic about Turkey`s chances of joining the EU."
Rehn indicated that Turkey must be confident in its EU process. "There will not be a train accident. However, it will be a very tough road ahead for Turkey," noted Rehn. "I believe that Turkey will pass through this stage with reforms."
According to Rehn, Turkey has the strength to change all (negative) obstacles into positive ones.
In response to a question, Rehn stressed that the progress report is always objective and fair. "My talks in Ankara were constructive and added to my knowledge," told Rehn.
Rehn added that his new book will meet the readers at the Frankfurt fair. "My book will generate discussions on Turkey-EU relations."
