C.H.P. Leader Baykal Chosen As Vice President Of Socialist International

ANKARA - Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal was chosen as the Vice-President of Socialist International on Wednesday.
Besides Baykal, German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis were also elected as the vice-presidents of Socialist International on the third and last date of the 22nd Congress of the Socialist International held in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The Council of Socialist International is comprised of leaders and representatives of political parties in 145 countries.
Erdal Inonu, one of the leaders of closed Socialist People's Party (SHP), had served as vice-president of Socialist International between 1993 and 1996.
