SUPRISE PROPOSAL FROM ERDOGAN TO SEZER AND BUYUKANIT
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan extended olive branch to President Ahmet Necdet Sezer and Chief of General Staff Gen. Yasar Buyukanit and said, "if there are concerns for fundamentalism, we are ready to discuss them and do what is necessary."
Erdogan said, "I have always stated that whoever the parties are (whether political or others) should refrain from approaches that would tense the country. We should be careful."
SECOND HIJACKER FIASCO OF THE MINISTRY
Justice Ministry announced Mehmet Ertas, a passenger in the hijacked Turkish Airlines Plane (THY), hijacker and made a very big fiasco.
A statement released by the ministry yesterday stated that the plane was hijacked by Hakan Ekinci and Mehmet Ertas and that initiatives were launched for their extradition. However, at the time when the ministry made this statement, Ertas was released after being questioned.
Justice Ministry noticed its mistake 4 hours later and made a second statement and said it was misled by Interpol.

GULER: "I DO NOT EXPECT SHORTAGE OF NATURAL GAS IN 2006"
Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Hilmi Guler indicated that he does "not expect any shortage of natural gas in 2006. We will monitor the Iranian-Turkish natural gas pipeline both on land and in air."

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, chatting with the reporters aboard the plane, underlined that a definition was necessary on fundamentalism. "There are some extremists. The government is able to fight against those extremists by making cooperation.
FROM GUL TO REHN: I AM LOOKING FOR A WAY OUT FOR 301
Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul gave hope to EU Commissioner Olli Rehn, who strongly criticized Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code throughout his visit to Ankara. Gul said Turkey could negotiate a proposal package which Finland prepared to prevent any train crash on Cyprus.

"THEY HAVE BECOME SOFT ON TERROR"
Deputy leader of the Turkish Republican People`s Party (CHP) Ali Topuz has indicated that the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has softened its stance on terror. According to Topuz, there are two important threats to Turkey: fundamentalism and separatist terror. The AKP plans to receive votes from the supporters of PKK in Turkey, said Topuz.

After he made remarks that the discussions on fundamentalism in Turkey are cacophony, many circles referred to the U.S. Ambassador in Ankara Ross Wilson as "a colonial governor". "Someone must tell this ambassador that he has insulted the Turkish people," said a high level official from the Republican People`s Party (CHP).
"MARAS AND MAGOSA SLIPPING AWAY"
Serdar Denktas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has criticized Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Erdogan`s policy on the TRNC. "The EU wants the transfer of Maras and Magosa seaports to Greek Cypriots. This is unacceptable," said Denktas.

YOUNG TURKS TO BEGIN CAMPAIGN
Young Turks will begin a campaign in 73 provinces to bring down the age requirement to be elected for parliament from 30 to 25. They will meet with all related officials.
FOOD AND CLOTHING WILL BE EXPENSIVE IN OCTOBER
Turkish Central Bank (MB) Money Policy Council has remarked that food items will be relatively expensive in October compared to the past month due to Ramadan. "The prices of shoes and clothing are also expected to be high," said the MB.

Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan has indicated that his administration and party do not want any tension in Turkey. "There could be different ideas. Yet these ideas must rely on scientific realities. All allegations against the government must be proved. We can not accept allegations that can not be proved. We can solve all problems through dialogue," said Erdogan.
GUL: "WE ARE FIRM ABOUT EU"
Turkish FM and Deputy PM Abdullah Gul met European Union Commissioner for Enlargement Olli Rehn on Wednesday. "We are aware about our deficiencies on the way to the EU. Yet we are firm about EU and will overcome all difficulties," said Gul.

European Union (EU) Commisioner for Enlargement Olli Rehn said Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code should definitely be amended.
Turkish Parliamentary EU Adjustment Commission Chairman Yasar Yakis said, "as we were talking about the size of the cucumber that would be used in making pickles, they brought freedom of speech in front of us. Those are different issues."
