ANKARA - "A law system which complies with communal development is obligatory for a republic based on secular and modern values," Turkish Justice Minister Cemil Cicek has indicated.
Cicek, Swiss Chief of Federal Department of Justice & Police Christoph Blocher and Supreme Court of Appeals Chief Prosecutor Nuri Ok attended a symposium in Ankara University to mark the 80th anniversary of Turkish Civil Law.
Delivering a speech in the symposium, Cicek noted that significant steps had been taken for a sound law system since 1926, stressing that Turkish law system gained a brand new structure in 1930s.
He stated Swiss civil law was chosen to improve Turkish civil law, because it was modern and secular one.
On the other hand, Blocher said that there were several factors binding Turkey and Switzerland to each other, indicating that Turkish civil law was a very important initiative.
