-"2007 WILL BE ACTIVITY YEAR FOR ANIMAL RIGHTS," YALINKILIC
ANKARA - "2007 will be a year of activities for protection of animal rights," Mustafa Kemal Yalinkilic, director general of Environment Protection & National Parks of Environment & Forestry Ministry, told the A.A on the occasion of the October 4th World Animal Protection Day.
"Animal rights are guaranteed in Turkey with Animal Protection Law which was adopted in 2004. Turkey is the first Islamic country that protects animal rights with laws," noted Yalinkilic adding that the law includes the same conditions as EU laws.
He noted, "stray animals as well as domestic animals are registered for the first time under this law. Certain conditions are brought for health control of animals. Also feeding of dangerous animals is banned."
Yalinkilic said that they have reserved 5 million YTL (3.3 million USD) from 2007 budget for health controls of stray animals.
