ANKARA - Natural steel production in Turkey was up 11.1 percent (over the world average of 9.4 percent) and reached 15.3 million tons in the first 8 months of 2006, stated Iron-Steel Producers' Association on Wednesday.
Turkey became the 11th biggest steel producer of the world and the third country behind China and India among the top 15 countries that increased steel production the most. Chinese steel production rise was 15.3 percent while Indian steel production was 18.8 percent.
According to data of the association, Turkey produced 13.7 million tons of steel in the first 8 months of last year.
Turkish steel production rose by 69.4 percent and reached 1.1 million tons in July 2006.
