Ankara Chamber of Industry Chairman Zafer Caglayan hosted two senior Moody's officials in Ankara on Tuesday: Helene Liss and Andreas Naumann, who leads the ratings firm's European business development.

Caglayan said Moody's chose to visit because it recognizes Türkiye's economic prospects and the ambitions of its private sector. He described the meeting's purpose as helping Turkish small and medium-sized enterprises access international financing and fostering partnerships between Turkish and foreign companies.

The chamber chairman also pressed the Moody's executives on what he called an uneven approach to rating Türkiye, urging them to account for the country's specific circumstances and its standing among the world's 20 largest economies.

On the current account deficit, Caglayan argued that the critical issue is how the gap is financed, stressing that direct foreign investment is the preferred source. He called privatization essential to attracting that capital, while acknowledging Türkiye had fallen short of the previous year's privatization pace.

Caglayan added that despite broadly positive economic trends, Türkiye remains vulnerable to external shocks, and called on the government to adopt a medium- and long-term microeconomic action plan.
