Özge Başaran, a dancer with the Ankara State Opera and Ballet, claimed the top prize at an international ballet competition held in Sochi, Russia, from 20–29 September 2006. The event honored Yuri Grigorovich, a landmark figure in Russian ballet known for elevating the role of male dancers alongside ballerinas and for his tenure leading the Bolshoi Theatre.
Başaran also received a Best Modern Talent award, having outperformed 72 competitors from multiple countries. She trained six hours daily in the lead-up to the contest, including rehearsals that had to be conducted without music due to technical problems.
