MINUTES OF 1 HOUR 40 MINUTES MEETING
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan met U.S. President George Bush for 1 hour 40 minutes at the Oval Office. Bush told Erdogan, "you have good relations with Bashar Al-Asad. Tell him not to make things more difficult in Lebanon."
Bush also warned Iran that "nothing would be left to speak" if it manufactures nuclear weapons. Erdogan in his part said, "this will not be good also for us. It will create problem."
Erdogan in his news conference said, "I have seen Mr. Bush resolved to fight against terrorism." Important messages were relayed to Iran, Syria, and Israel at the meeting.
THERE IS THREAT, EVERY KIND OF MEASURE SHOULD BE TAKEN
Replying to Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan who said, "refrain from creating tension. There is no threat of fundamentalism in Turkey," Chief of General Staff Gen. Yasar Buyukanit said, "aren`t the principle qualities of our Republic regime under a serious attack? Aren`t there people who want to make our people have an outworn appearance? Can you say "no" to those questions? If you can say "no", then there is threat of fundamentalism."

BUSH MAKES PROMISE AGAIN
PKK was the main topic of the meeting between Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and U.S. President George Bush. The U.S. President promised to work jointly in fight against terrorism. Erdogan wanted Bush to "display his decisiveness in fight against terrorism in the international level, particularly regarding PKK issue." Complaining that U.S. weapons in Iraq were seized by PKK, Erdogan said failure to take tangible measures against the terrorist organization created anti-Americanism in Turkey.
YES, THERE ARE FRAUDULENT ALTERATIONS, I WILL DO WHAT IS NECESSARY
National Education Minister Huseyin Celik stated that the quoted passage in the religious lesson book that read, "the water used in ritual ablution rises amount of red blood cells in the body" was included by making fraudulent alterations in the text. Celik said he would do what was necessary on the issue.

THEY DID NOT MENTION ITS NAME
Meeting between Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and U.S. President George Bush was warmer than expected. The two leaders agreed to fight against PKK without mentioning its name. The two leaders discussed every issue including Iran, Iraq, and Middle East. Speaking after the meeting, Bush said, "we will fight against terrorism and extremism together."
GEN. BUYUKANIT DID NOT ESCALATE IT
Chief of General Staff Gen. Yasar Buyukanit again made warning in his speech against fundamentalism. The dose of his speech was not so strong as it was expected and this eased the markets.
What did Gen. Buyukanit say?
Fundamentalism: There is threat of fundamentalism in Turkey and every kind of measure should be taken.
Secularism: Aren`t those who on every opportunity say "let us re-define secularism" occupy high ranking positions at the state?"
To EU: Responding to the statements of PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan that there was no threat of fundamentalism, Gen. Buyukanit said, "there is danger and measures should be taken."

TENSION ESCALATES
After the statements of President Ahmet Necdet Sezer, Chief of General Staff Gen. Yasar Buyukanit opposed to the statements of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan that there was no threat of fundamentalism.
Gen. Buyukanit said, "the geography Turkey is located on makes the presence of strong guards essential. These guards are not merely the soldiers or policemen but all individuals working in various institutions of the Turkish Republic. Our war academies educate and train strong guards not only of the Armed Forces but also the Republic itself."

WE WILL NOT REMAIN SILENT
Chief of General Staff Gen. Yasar Buyukanit said Turkish Armed Forces would defend itself against the attacks.
As a support to the warnings of President Ahmet Necdet Sezer and other commanders against fundamentalism, Gen. Buyukanit said threat of fundamentalism still continued.
"Aren`t there people who on every opportunity say `let us re-define secularism`? Aren`t those people working at the highest level of the state?` asked Gen. Buyukanit.
EVEN NAME OF PKK WAS NOT MENTIONED
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan met U.S. President George Bush at the White House. In a joint statement made after the meeting, PKK and north of Iraq were not mentioned contrary to Turkey`s expectations. Message of a joint fight against global terrorism was given.
Erdogan held a news conference afterwards and said name of PKK was not mentioned in the statements in order not to make propaganda of the terrorist organization.

BELIEF REFRESHED WITH UNITED STATES
Meeting between Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and U.S. President George W. Bush continued for about two hours. In a joint statement, both leaders emphasized cooperation in fight against terrorism.
"We had a very comprehensive and important dialogue," Bush said after the meeting, and Erdogan in his part said, "it was a positive meeting."

In a joint statement after the meeting, Erdogan said, "we think the same about the things that should be done against global terrorism."
Erdogan said, "we discussed Cyprus and Turkey`s EU membership. I have expressed Turkey`s sensitivity on Cyprus. We also expressed our views on how we could act together in the Middle East process including Lebanon."
SOME EU COUNTRIES ARE SUPPORTERS OF TERRORISM
Chief of General Staff Gen. Yasar Buyukanit said some Europeans supported terrorists, stating that, "some organizations which the EU and NATO declared as terrorist, are now acting again in countries which are members of those organizations. They either can not catch the terrorists or they cause those terrorists go away."

Fight against PKK was the main topic discussed during Erdogan-Bush meeting at the White House. Erdogan said, "at the point of understanding Turkey`s sensitivity, I have seen decisiveness of the U.S. President, boosting my hopes."
Erdogan remarked that Bush said, "you will see my determination soon."
DOUBLE REACTION FROM EUROPE TO CHIRAC
Statements of French President Jacques Chirac that Turkey should acknowledge so-called Armenian genocide before being a member of the European Union (EU) did not receive support in Europe.
European Commission stated that recognition of so-called Armenian genocide was not a condition for membership. Council of Europe also criticized Chirac.
Reminding that EU made promises to Turkey and such promises should be kept, "rules can not change in the middle of the game", Rene van der Linden, President of Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) stressed.
