ROME - Bargaining with the two hijackers in the Turkish Airlines (THY) jet is continuing in Italy`s Brindisi Airport.
Bargaining is being conducted by Brindisi Governor Mario Tafaro.
The Vatican issued a press release saying that they are closely monitoring the developments in Brindisi.
In the initial phase of the bargaining, the two hijackers told Italian authorities that they have a message for Pope Benedict XVI. Italian authorities demanded that the hijackers set free the passengers and crew members in return for sending their message to the Pope.
No deal has been reached so far.
The hijackers asked Italian officials if they can meet Italian journalists. "This way, the hijackers can send their message to the Pope through Italian journalists," said a source.
According to Italian authorities, the two hijackers are unarmed.
Bargaining is continuing at this time.
