Technical Failure In Kirkuk - Yumurtalik Oil Pipeline

ADANA - The technical failure which took place on October 18 in Iraqi-Turkey crude oil pipeline that transports crude oil from Kirkuk to Yumurtalık could not be sorted out yet.
Turkish Pipeline Company (BOTAS) officials said that there was no technical problem in the Turkish side about transfer of the oil to BOTAS facilities in Yumurtalık, Adana.
''We are in contact with Iraqi officials. We can't give a date by when the failure will be sorted out. We hope the pipeline can be opened as soon as possible,'' said the officials. Officials also stressed that the failure in the pipeline also affected the world oil prices.
Iraqi-Turkey Crude Oil Pipeline which was closed in August, 1990 due to the embargo imposed by U.N. on Iraq during the Gulf crisis, was re-opened for restricted flow of oil on December 16, 1996. The transportation of oil which stopped on March 19, 2003 with the recent Iraqi war, re-started on August 13, but it could not continue due to the attacks.
