GENK - Union of Turkish Associations hosted an evening meal for fast-breaking (iftar) in a 400 people-tent in Genk, Belgium.
Jo Vandeurzen, leader of Belgium's Christian Democratic and Flemmish Party, participated in the iftar, as well as many priests and foreigners who ate and prayed together with Turkish people.
Hakan Celikoz, director of Genk Turkish Education and Culture Centre, said that they had been organising such "fast-breaking meals" in various restaurants for the last 3 years and they erected a tent this year for the first time.
"During the holy month Ramadan, we invite foreigners for a day as well. As everybody is accustomed to this invitation, they ask us when to come. In a time when our religion is tried to be demonstrated as a religion of terrorism, we want to show everybody that we are on the side of peace and dialogue ", Celikoz indicated.
