LONDON - One British soldier has been killed and another seriously injured in the southern Iraqi city of Basra, the Ministry of Defence said Monday.
"The MOD regrets to confirm that a soldier from the Royal Army Medical Corp was killed and another seriously injured following an indirect fire attack on a Shaat Al Arab Hotel base in Basra City," it said in a statement.
Britain has 7,200 troops in southern Iraq patrolling an area around Basra, a bastion of Iranian-backed Shiite militias. Some 118 British troops have been killed since they joined the US-led 2003 invasion.
