ANKARA - Turkey repaid a total of 1 billion 60.73 million U.S. dollars in external debt between October 1 and 22, 2003.
The Central Bank data show that the Treasury repaid 761.50 million U.S. dollars; the Central Bank repaid 40.81 million U.S. dollars, and the administrations with general and consolidated budget paid the remaining 17.36 million U.S. dollars.
Turkey has repaid 12 billion 371.63 million U.S. dollars in external debt since the beginning of the year.
Turkey repaid 847.51 million U.S. dollars in external debt in January, 1 billion 948.87 million U.S. dollars in February, 1 billion 57.93 million U.S. dollars in March, 915.06 million U.S. dollars in April, 1 billion 133.96 million U.S. dollars in May, 1 billion 936.25 million U.S. dollars in June, 1 billion 851.89 million U.S. dollars in July and 907.35 million U.S. dollars in August and 712.08 million dollars in September.
The total external debt repayments in 2002 had been 17 billion 365.18 million U.S. dollars.

FOREIGN EXCHANGE RESERVES DECREASE

Foreign exchange reserves of the Central Bank decreased by 249 million U.S. dollars between October 10-17, 2003.
According to the Central Bank's weekly bulletin, the Central Bank's foreign exchange reserves which were 34 billion 675 million U.S. dollars on October 10, decreased to 34 billion 426 million U.S. dollars on October 17.
Total foreign exchange reserves of banks and private finance organizations increased 126 million U.S. dollars from 10 billion 867 million U.S. dollars to 10 billion 993 million U.S. dollars between September 26 and October 3.
The international reserves of Turkey comprising gold reserves and foreign exchange reserves of the Central Bank, commercial banks and private finance organizations increased 407 million U.S. dollars from 46 billion 17 million U.S. dollars to 46 billion 424 million U.S. dollars between September 26 and October 3.
FOREIGN EXCHANGE DEPOSIT ACCOUNTS INCREASE

Total foreign exchange deposit accounts at banks increased 610 million U.S. dollars to 67 billion 771 million U.S. dollars between October 3-10, 2003.
According to Central Bank's provisional statistics, total foreign exchange deposit accounts at banks was 67 billion 161 million U.S. dollars on October 3.
Foreign exchange deposits increased 448 million U.S. dollars to 51 billion 400 million U.S. dollars in the same period.
Total internal foreign exchange deposits increased 505 million U.S. dollars to 49 billion 8 million U.S. dollars while external foreign exchange deposits decreased 57 million U.S. dollars to 2 billion 392 million U.S. dollars in the same period.
Meanwhile, total foreign exchange deposits at the interbank market increased 187 million U.S. dollars to 790 million U.S. dollars.
Foreign exchange deposits with letter of credit and super foreign exchange accounts decreased 246 million U.S. dollar to 16 billion 125 million U.S. dollars between October 10-17, 2003.

BANKS' CREDIT VOLUME INCREASES

Banks' credit volume increased 399 trillion Turkish liras (TL) to 50 quadrillion 430.7 trillion TL between October 3 and 10, 2003.
The total credit volume at banks was 50 quadrillion 31.6 trillion TL on October 3.
The credits given to financial sector were composed of 853.2 trillion TL of loans given by deposit banks, and 1 quadrillion 727.6 trillion TL of loans given by development and investment banks.
The credits given to non-financial sector were composed of 164.1 trillion TL of loans given by Central Bank, 43 quadrillion 220.6 trillion TL of loans given by deposit banks, and 4 quadrillion 464.9 trillion TL of loans given by development and investment banks.
SECURITIES ACCOUNT AT BANKS INCREASES

The securities account at banks increased 563.4 trillion Turkish Liras (TL) to 45 quadrillion 831.1 trillion TL on October 10, 2003.
The total securities account at banks was 45 quadrillion 267.7 trillion TL on October 3.
The Central Bank data show that there were a total of 44 quadrillion 120.7 trillion TL of securities including 26 quadrillion 103.5 trillion TL of securities and 18 quadrillion 17.2 trillion TL of securities over foreign currency in the deposit banks portfolio.
The securities over TL at deposit banks are composed of 3 quadrillion 789.9 trillion TL in treasury bonds, 21 quadrillion 804.8 trillion TL in state debenture bonds and 444.8 trillion TL in stocks.
A total of 902.7 trillion TL of foreign currency securities at these banks are abroad while there is a total of 17 quadrillion 881.1 trillion TL of state debenture bonds among the domestic securities.
The total securities account at the development and investment banks was 804.1 trillion TL.
TOTAL DEPOSITS AT BANKS DECREASE

Total deposits at banks decreased 139.2 trillion Turkish liras (TL) to 139 quadrillion 635.6 trillion TL as of October 10, 2003.
The Central Bank data show that the total deposits were 139 quadrillion 774.9 trillion TL on October 3.
Excluding inter-bank deposits, the total deposits, which were 137 quadrillion 244.9 trillion TL on October 3, decreased 353.8 trillion TL to 136 quadrillion 891.1 trillion TL on October 10.
The total foreign exchange deposits under total deposits at banks decreased 597 trillion TL from 66 quadrillion 675.6 trillion TL on October 3 to 66 quadrillion 78.5 trillion liras on October 10.
The total TL deposits increased 243.2 trillion TL to 70 quadrillion 812.5 trillion TL on October 10. The total TL deposits were 70 quadrillion 596.3 trillion on October 3.
The total TL deposits were composed of 39 quadrillion 170.3 trillion TL deposits at public banks, 30 quadrillion 763.8 trillion TL of deposits at private deposit banks and 643.1 trillion TL of deposits at foreign banks.
REPO TRANSACTIONS BETWEEN BANKS AND THEIR CUSTOMERS DECREASE

Repo transactions between banks and their customers decreased by 730.8 trillion Turkish liras (TL) between October 10-17, 2003.
The Central Bank data show that the repo transactions, which were 3 quadrillion 576.8 trillion TL on October 10, decreased to 2 quadrillion 845.9 trillion TL on October 17.
Repo transactions among the financial organizations increased 126 trillion TL to 7 quadrillion 372.5 trillion TL on October 17. The total repo transactions amount was 7 quadrillion 246.5 trillion TL on October 10.
The reverse repo transactions among the financial organizations, which were 7 quadrillion 187.2 trillion TL on October 10, increased 182.6 trillion liras to 7 quadrillion 369.8 trillion TL on October 17.
