ANKARA - TRNC President Rauf Denktas said on Wednesday that Annan plan targeted indirect Enosis and uprooting Turkish nation from Cyprus.
Speaking in a news conference at his arrival at Esenboga Airport, Denktas said that they defended Cyprus cause for 40 years and he got invitation from all parts of Anatolia to explain the Cyprus cause.
Denktas stated that ''if we accept Annan plan, Cyprus will be a Greek Cypriot island within ten years. Therefore indirect Enosis will become a reality through EU membership. It means uprooting Turkish nation from the island, it means Turkey's withdrawing from Cyprus. It means giving in to Greek Cypriot hegemony under a common constitution.''
Denktas stated that Cyprus issue would be sorted out by negotiations, Denktas said that ''there are realities on the basis of these negotiations. The realities should be defended and protected. There is no conflict within us as a nation and with the Turkish government about this issue. Prime Minister Mr. Erdogan also says that the issue can be sorted out upon realities. These realities are described. There are two peoples, two democracies and two states in Cyprus and the continuation of active and effective support of Turkey is a must.''
Denktas commented that the U.S. which warned Turkey not to interfere with elections in TRNC, started to interfere with the elections itself, adding ''the American side started to interfere with the elections with its embassy, representatives and it started to cast shadow on elections. The reaction of our nation to it increases.''
Denktas will go to northern Zonguldak province by highway and receive the honourary award to be presented to him by Karaelmas University. Denktas will also deliver a speech at a conference on developments in Cyprus.
