Human Rights Reforms Are Not Made To Remain On Paper

STRASBOURG - Parliamentary Human Rights Investigation Commission Chairman Mehmet Elkatmis said on Wednesday that reforms on human rights and democracy at Parliament were not made to remain on paper, adding that the government was determined in putting them into practice.
Elkatmis and members of commission and Justice and Development Party (AK Party) deputies Cavit Torun, Ahmet Gokhan Saricam and Hakan Tasci met with officials of Council of Europe and European Court of Human Rights.
Holding a press conference, Elkatmis said that the commission had received more than 50 foreign delegations in the last one year and added that they came to Strasbourg to continue dialogue with their foreign colleagues and to inform them about reforms fulfilled at parliament.
Elkatmis said that Europeans were impressed by the reforms fulfilled at parliament.
Regarding the criticisms on practicing of the reforms, Elkatmis said that reforms were not made for remaining on paper and the government was determined in putting them into practice.
Elkatmis and accompanying delegation will depart from Strasbourg tomorrow.
