Foreign Minister Gul Meets With Greek Prime Minister Simitis

ATHENS - Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul met on Wednesday with Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis.
Finance Minister Kemal Unakitan also attended the meeting which lasted nearly 50 minutes.
Gul told reporters that they took up Cyprus issue, Turkish-Greek relations and the European Union (EU) issue.
Gul said that sides emphasized that positive steps had been taken until today and confirmed one more time that problems should be solved in peaceful ways through dialogue. He added that Greece expressed its support to Turkey's EU perspective.
Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou said that Simitis and Gul discussed Cyprus issue, EU and violations in the Aegean.
Papandreou said that Simitis stressed that steps should be taken in these issues and emphasized that 2004 was an important date and wished that necessary steps should not be delayed until the last moment.
Gul then proceeded to Athens Airport to go to Sarajevo to attend the funeral of former Bosnia-Herzegovina President Aliya Izzetbegovic.
